Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell |5 STAR REVIEW

Okay, I need to talk about this book. How was it so good? I loved it so much, and I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I’ve planned a blog post that you’ll see soon which is my favourite quotes from this book, but I also needed to write my full feelings about this book here and gush about it to you.

Letsago! (also hi!)

Author: Rainbow Rowell

Rating: 5/5 Stars

When I read Carry On, I thought it was… fine? It was nothing special to me, and I thought it was kinda overhyped. But when the sequel was announced, I got pretty excited. And then I got MORE excited because of the hype! What a weird circle of events XD. Around a month after it was released I got it from the library and started to read it. And from the very start I was hooked. And I think it’s because this book was so different to Carry On that made me like it so much more. So, I feel like if you adored Carry On, you won’t like this book as much because it’s different. Thank goodness that was a plus for me!

I love all the characters in this book so much. I got to see them all in a more human, vulnerable way, and not like their original cookie-cutter “chosen one” personalities. Simon and Baz’s relationship was painful to read about because I was rooting for them so much and they were going through so many troubles. Because this book is written in multiple POV’s, I could see what they both wanted and needed, so I just wanted to sit them both down and just make them talk about their feelings for each other. It was so infuriating (in a good way) when they kept quiet about their feelings. But hopefully all will be resolved in book 3. I also loved Penelope, even though she was kinda annoying when it came to Lamb. I got where she was coming from, being all hostile towards him, but I felt that she needed to take a chill pill a couple of times during the book. Lamb was so awesome as well. I would be so happy to read an entire book on his adventures before he met Simon and Baz and Penelope. Like, please Rainbow Rowell, gimme gimme gimme!

The road trip aspect in this book was probably my favourite part. Maybe I like road trip books, and should read more of them? MIND BLOWN. But it was so fun to see them travelling around America and seeing new sights and meeting new people. Before reading this book, I was actually skeptical about the new setting and the fact that it was a road trip, because I thought it would make the plot more tame and almost childish. But I was so wrong and I couldn’t be happier. It was so fun, but it also gave Simon time to collect his thoughts about himself and Baz, which I feel was needed.

Overall, I loved this book so much and I can’t wait for Any Way The Wind Blows. I also want to reread Carry On at some point to see if my opinion still stands or if I increase my rating due to feeling more connected to the characters. I recommend this book to everyone who likes Rainbow Rowell, even (controversial) if you haven’t read Carry On. I think if you read a spoilery booktalk about Carry On, you’d be able to dive right in to this sequel and have so much fun.

This is actually my first blog post of the new year and the DECADE. So happy new year, and I hope you have the best 2020 everrrrr. Make new friends, read loads of books, and take care of yourselves! I love you all and I’ll see you very soon with another post. Bye!!!
